This morning, the Only You Atocha hotel hosted the first ‘Family Breakfast’, a line of events developed by The Family Advisory Board (TFAB) whose objective is to organize exclusive meetings for family business owners in which they can share personal and professional experiences and have a networking space for high-level family business owners.
The president of TFAB, Manuel Bermejo, a businessman and academic with more than 20 years of experience in the world of advising business families and family businesses, inaugurated this event, which was attended by Abel Matutes Prats, president of Grupo Palladium. Matutes shared with the attendees how he experienced his transition to such a position at a time as complicated as the pandemic, aggravated even more by the profound consequences that covid-19 has had for the tourism sector. Likewise, Matutes explained to the attendees that resilience, adaptability, strategy reformulation and reinvention are imperative needs for any businessman, especially if he aspires to continue being one of the main players at a national and international level.
For his part, Manuel Bermejo, the leading Spanish-speaking influencer in the sector according to the Family Business United ranking, explained that “entrepreneurship in the family business allows three objectives to be addressed: innovate on the core business, identify new businesses to diversify and create funds and procedures to support new initiatives by the continuing generations. In any case, it is key for the continuity of the family business that the entrepreneurial spirit transcends the founding generation”.
This idea was also shared by Abel Matutes, who said that “in the past, market niches lasted thirty years, but today they last no more than five. Everything is constantly changing. That is why the difference between doing things well or badly lies in talent. If we don’t know how to reinvent ourselves and explore potential opportunities, we can take a company by surprise.
